As of this weekend it’s registered and (mostly) driveable. I keep getting a recurring P1391 code, coupled with spluttering above 3,500 rpm. Both sensors associated with the code have been replaced though, so I’m not sure where to go from here. In the meantime it’s perfectly driveable without ever hitting 3,500.

Also it turns out the rear suspension needs a rebuild as it’s clunking quite bad, but replacement parts are hilariously cheap . The lower control arms were $20/ea and the central upper one was $60. Hopefully they’ll arrive in time for my day off this week so I can install them.

Also also it seems to run a bit warm. Idling with the A/C on the coolant temp hovers around 210°F. Forum posts say this is quite normal and that I needn’t be concerned, but I can’t help but be.

I keep noisily struggling to find a clean Jeep, while you keep quietly  making one run. One of us is actually Oppo, one just plays it on the web.

I think the problem is that you're searching for a clean Jeep.

There are a few out there, thankfully. Not many.

It can be done. There is currently 1 manual Cherokee for sale within 250 miles of me but check this out! 79 J10 for $5,500!

Good interior and minimal rust.

And I know you don’t like the Comanche but it’s a Cherokee with a bed! This nearly immaculate 4WD is only $6,200!

And this crazy clean J10 is only 10k. It’s a lot but you also get a lot of truck.

Those J10s definitely give me the feels.

I’m always surprised by how inexpensive J10s can be. I’ve really seen a softening in the classic (60s-70s) truck market lately I believe.

You could try cleaning the grounds as a potential quick/easy fix for that P1391 code. Seems like it’s related to wiring if it’s not the sensors

They basically never pop up here, at lea st on Craigslist. If I checked Marketplace I’d probably find one occasionally .

I found two good cheap ones (shown) within 250 miles so yeah they’re rare.

There are some fantastic driving roads near where that J1 0 is.

Good to drive a J10 down though? And the one in SC or TN ?

Neither are in TN, but the roads near the one near Ashville are fantastic. I wouldn’t want to take any Jeep on those roads, which is why I passed a Wrangler doing 20 MPH on roads up there once.

Sounds about right. Some of those twisty two lanes around the foothills of the Appalachians can be as blast.
